Elite Stars acheive record breaking day!  The Elite Stars & other gymnasts help raise funds to support our local Palmetto Health Children’s hospital during a “Flip-a-thon”   The event corresponded with the USA Gymnastics association “National Gymnastics Day,” 2011 is the year of the handstand and gymnasts from around the nation joined together to break the world record for handstands attempted! 

We are so proud of all those who participated & donated funds to help make the day a success!  Check out the video from the day!

The Miss Libby’s family would like to congratulate Taylor Baker for placing 5th on Beam and 14th AA at the Region 8 Level 7 Regionals.   Region 8 consist of 8 states in the Southeast (SC, NC, AL, TN, MS, FL, GA, and LA). Taylor is one of the top 21 Level 7 gymnasts that represented the state of SC. S he qualified to Regionals during last month’s state meet by placing 12th out of 130 gymnast.

Subway spokesperson Jared Fogle visited two area schools to recognize the grand prize winners in the SUBWAY FRESH FIT® Video and Poster Competition. Jared surprised members of the Elite Stars at Miss Libby’s School of Dance & Gymnastics, who also were grand prize winners. COLUMBIA, SC — Subway restaurants announced Friday the grand prize winners in the SUBWAY FRESH FIT^® Video and Poster Competition. Jared Fogle, Subway’s national spokesperson, visited the winning schools to present the students with their awards and congratulate Jordan Brideau, a fourth grade student at Oak Pointe Elementary School in Irmo, and members of the Elite Stars at Miss Libby’s School of Dance and Gymnastics in Sumter: Molly Orr, Savannah McCause, Bethany Jones, Chelsea Horton, Faith Blackmon and Amy Banghart. The two grand prize winners each received an awards package including $1,000 SUBWAY^® Card and $1,000 fitness grant for their school.

Over 1,000 (1,117) students in the Midlands submitted entries in the SUBWAY FRESH FIT^® Video and Poster Competition, which ran Sept. 8 – Oct. 8. Participants in the contest showed how they stay healthy and fit, by either drawing on a poster board or recording a video. The program was designed to help educate students, increase local awareness about the nation’s current childhood obesity problem, and provide positive incentives for kids to form healthier diet and exercise habits. It was open to students ages 5-17.

“South Carolina students really stepped up and showed us the creative and fun ways they are staying healthy and fit,” said Fogle. “I am pleased to join my friends at the local Subway restaurants in giving back to the community and getting kids to really think about the importance of health and nutrition.”

One in four of South Carolina’s young children are overweight or obese. By the time students reach high school, these numbers will have grown to one in three. Obesity in children is generally caused by a lack of physical activity, unhealthy eating patterns or a combination of both. The majority of today’s kids remain significantly less active than children 15, 10 and even 5 years ago. That’s why Subway restaurants want to encourage students in the area to register for the contest, make healthy diet and exercise choices, and tell local residents how they stay healthy and fit.
